VISIT KERALA IN HOUSEBOAT ("kettuvallam")

If you haven't, Come discover the enchanting backwaters and lively villages of Kerala on a houseboat cruise. Nowhere in the world you will get this kind of experience!

Kerala offers a unique mini - canvas to the traveller; the backwaters, which consist of a complex network of lagoons, lakes & canals. Life on the backwaters is entirely different; water being the key to everything. There are no roads here, only waterways. On the banks one can see lush green rice fields spreading away into the distance and coconut groves with the occasional temple or church.

The backwaters are best experienced while slowly punting down the labyrinth of canals in a traditional thatch-roofed houseboat, known as 'kettuvallam'. It takes great skill and meticulousness to construct these houseboats by tying huge planks of jack wood together. Curiously enough, not a single nail is used in their making , There used to be an entire clan of artisans who were involved in kettuvallom contruction. Today, an innovative holiday idea ,an experience you will savour for a long time.

The houseboats are renovated cargo boats… kettuvallams… and are provided with all modern conveniences and comforts to make your stay a pleasant experience. The boats are designed to facilitate a most eco-friendly functioning. They carry furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for angling. As you cruise down the canal you can see morning newspaper and mail delivery by boat, vendors in boat paddle from house to house selling everyday provisions like rice, vegetables, oil, kerosene etc. with hundreds of quacking ducks around. Also you can see village activities, fisherman's activities and see old beautiful temples, churches and old fashioned Kerala.
